I’ve written quite a few pieces for piano. It isn’t something I play regularly anymore but I still occasionally write piano music. We are taught to think like piano players in college. I was never really good at thinking like a piano player but I did write a series of Inventions while learning how to imitate J.S. Bach. I make NO claim to write like Bach–these are nowhere near as polished as his most insignificant work. Nor do they emulate his style very well but they are mine and I love them.
In a nutshell, an Invention is a short piece (usually keyboard) that has two voices in counterpoint that imitate and develop off of each other. I must have written at least six of these but could only find two in my old files. I’m not even 100% sure of when I wrote these.
One of these pieces was labeled “Invention in C” and the other was labeled “Invention no 6” but they are both in C. I think the one labeled “Invention in C” was written a few years before the other one but my memory is really hazy. 🤷♂️
Anyway, here is the sheet music and midi wav files. Enjoy! 🙂
